PETROL CAR TRAM SYSTEM.

PALMERSTON PROPOSAL. [BY TELEGRAPH — SPECIAL 1 TO THE POST.] PALMERSTON N., This Day. The Public Works Committee reported to the Borough Council last night that Mr. Heath had waited on the committee, and submitted proposals for the establishment of a petrol car system of trams in the borough. As the result of the council's deliberations in committee, the Mayor will now call a public meeting of ratepayers, when particulars will be placed before them, and their views obtained on the following three proposals : (1) Installation of electric trains for the borough; (2) the installation of petrol cars at an estimated cost of £23,000, providing for about five cars ; (3) whether the ratepayers are prepared to grant a concession for the cars on favourable terms, the ratepayers having the right to take them over in seven years.
