[BY TBLEOHAPH — PBESS ASSOOIATIOH.] GISBORNE, This Day. Yesterday a young married man named* Watts, employed at the Pahiatua station, gashed his foot badly with an axe. While he was being brougnt to town for medical assistance the horse in the gig bolted. The vehicle capsized, and rolled into the river, the«>ccupants being thrown clear. Alfred R. Winkworth, a roadman employed by the County Council, went into tie river to liberate the horse, and wa3 drowned. Watts was brought to the hospital at 3 o'clock this morning.
