DOMESTIC SERVANTS.
• REPLY TO A QUESTION. Some days ago Mr. M'Laren put a question on the Order Paper which indirectly impeached the bona fides of certain people who enquire at the Government Labour Bureau for domestic servants. This afternoon Mr. Millar said that it was possible that in a few cases applications made by employers to the women's branches of the Labour Department for domestic servants were not really bona fide, but the demand for this class of labour is so great throughout the whole of New Zealand that such cases must be rare, if they exist at all. In almost every instance the domestic servant is in the position of having the choice of her employer. What had probably given rise to the question was the fact that, as frequently happened, an employer was unable to secure precisely the help required, and was thus compelled, at all events for a time, to engage some other less suitable worker.
