In the horn solos, Bowes, of Wanganui, secured thdrdV place. There were 88 competitors in B flat cornet contest. Buckley, of Wangjanui, tied with Gore, of Victoria, for first place. The New Zealander was beaten in the play-off. M 'Comas (Victoria) was third. Gore got the full points. In the baritone competition, Jensen, of iWanganui, was first; Harrojjj of Vie-, •toria, second; and Helm, of Victoria, .third. The judge remarked that the-, standard of playing equalled that of Eng-. . land. THE GATHERING AT DUNEDIN. DUNEDTtf, 18th October. At the hand contest, in the quartet competition, eleven teams competed. No. 1 team from Woolston (R. J. Estell, C. D. Durtn, E. Barber, and G. Wilson} scored the maximum number of points, and came first. The quartet representing the Lyttelton Marine Band (H- Fox, A. Griffiths, L. Wendleborn, and W. .7. Sullivan), and No. . 1 quartet fr jiii TCaikorai (E- Kerr, G. Laidlaw, I). Whelan, and J. A. O'Brien) each scored 49 points, and were awarded second place. The following bands were also represented: — Morningion (two teams), South Canteibury Battalion, Dunedin Citizens' V.'uolI ston, arid Kaikorai No. 2 teams. The scoring was, in hearly every instance, remarkably high, the judge stating that ho had had some difficulty in separating some of the contestants. A garden, party was held in the afternoon. «
