HARRIERS.
BROOKLYN CLUB. I On Saturday afternoon the above, club held the first steeplechase of the season at the old Hutt Park Racecourse over a distance of 2£ miles. Twelve men faced the starter. After the first mile had been covered the limit men were well Sunched, but the heavy going soon told its tale, and during the next mile the back-markers gradually picked up, and Hodson (lOsec), running splendidly, assumed the lead. Entering the straight, Hodson sprinted, and won by thirty yards from G. Don, with R. Munro a similar distance away third. / Next Saturday there will be a combined run with the Wellington Harriers at Island Bay al 3 p.m. WELLINGTON CLUB. To those who are fond of variety in a cross-country course, that selected by W. F. Watt and T,. Farrington for the Wellington Harriers to run over on Saturday should have appealed strongly. Starting from Rona Bay the hares trailed a course as far as the Gollan's Valleyroad, thence into the valley and due nouth for a couple of miles, when 1 a stiff climb lasting for fully half-an-hour up a manuka and gorse-covered spur brought them on to the hill top within a mile of Pencarrow Lighthouse. From hero the top of the ridge was followed back to Muritai. A long run in from a flying utart resulted in places being gained hv F. Wliton, W. Press, and C. Kowberry. The thanks of the club are due to Messrs. T. W. Pilcher and H. A. Lamb for their hospitality during the afternoon in granting the use of a cottage and providing much appreciated tea for the pack, which, owing to the lengthy run, did not return to town until the late boat. A combined run with the Brooklyn Harriers will be held from Island Bay on Saturday next, when entries for the Trentham Steeplechase will close.
