H/GH COMMISSIONER'S REPORT. The Commerce and Tourists Division. ,of the Department of Agriculture, Commerce, and Tourists has received the following cablegram from the High Com- . missioner, dated London, 9th July, 1910 :— Mutton : The market is very dull. There is less demand and supplies areincreasing. Average price to-day : Canterbury, 3£d per lb; North Island, 3£d. Lamb : The market is weak. Stocks of lamb on hand are heavy, and are widely distributed amongst agents, who are pushing sales. The weather lately \has been very unfavourable to the sale 'of lamb. -Canterbury, 5d per lb ; other tlhan Canterbury, 4g-d. •I Beef : The market continues dull. Supplies of River Plate beef are heavy. New •Zealand hinds, 3£d " per lb ; fores, 2^d "per lb. Butter : The market is quiet but firm for best quality. New Zealand is in ■small supply. Choicest New Zealand •butter to-day is 109s per cwt, Danish" -115s, Australian 102s, and Siberian 98s. ,' Cheese: The market is> quiet, but "lnoderate business is doing. White, 55s ►.64; coloured, 54s 6d per cwt. "V TTemp 1 The" market is dull and very %Jittl© business doing. New Zealand good-fair, on spot, per ton £24 ss; fair grade, £22 ss; fair current Manila £21 :10s. Forward shipment :' Nsw Zealand ■-good-fair, per ton £24. Fair grade, !£2l 15s; fair current Manila, £21. The .output from Manila for the week was 20,000 bales. Since our last '.wire Antwerp sales as compared with ythe closing rates of last series of London sales are : Crossbred fine, 2^ per cent, to 5 per cent, lower; Merino generally, 2i per cent to 5 per cent, lower; crossrbred coarse —so far hardly any have ;'been offered.. A considerable quantity of wool was withdrawn from sale. Talldw : At to-day's sale prices were 3d to 9d higher, the advance being chiefly on anedium qualities. TOURING FOOTBALLERS. • 'A TRAMWAY TEAM FOR THE NORTH. At noon to-day, a Rugby football team composed of members of fhe city tramways staff, and captained by Conductor ißowe, left for _ Auckland, where they vwfll play what is known as the "Kohn . Shield" match against an Auckland tramway fifteen. Last year there was a match between the two teams in question, the Northern citymen, who were possessed of several "All Blacks," proving victorious. Since then a shield for competafckm among the staffs of the rvariooß tramways in the Dominion has (been presented by the late Mt. Adoiph iKohn, of Auckland, and the Wellingjtonians will endeavour to carry it back 4with them.
