AMERICAN TARIFF.
i MINIMUM RATES TO UNITED KINGDOM. BUT NOT TO COLONIES. By Telegraph.— Prest Association.— Copyright LONDON", 19th January. The New York Herald's Washington correspondent reports that the President (Mr. W. H. Taft) has granted the minimum Customs rates under the new tariff law to the United Kingdom, but not to British colonial possessions. The President has also granted the minimum rates to Italy, Russia, Spain, and her colonies, ajnd to the Ottoman Empire, but not to Egypt. RETALIATION SOUGHT. AGAINST GERMAN MEAT EXCHK, SION LAWS. NO SIGN OF AGREEMENT. (Received January 20, 8.45 a.m.) LONDON, 19th January. The repeal of the meat exclusion, laws is described as the irreducible minimum of the American demands under the new tariff, over which Germany and America are fighting. The tariff becomes effective on Ist April. There is not the slightest present sign of settlement. The Washington correspondent of The Times, in mentioning Britain and the minimum tariff, makes no mention of British colonies.
