Invitations have been issued by their Excellencies tho Governor and Lady Plunket for a small dance on Tuesday next. Mrs. Sinclair — wife of the Hon. W. Sinclair — and Miss Sinclair, return on Wednesday to Dunedin in time for Miss Ivy Allen's marriage to Dr. Ziele. Mrs. Arthur Nathan, who has been staying with Mas. Walter Nathan, returns to Auckland on Monday. Miss Zaideo Nathan accompanies her. Miss Nannie Heath and Miss Mary Maflean, of Napier, have "foooked passages by the Malwa, which leaves Auckland on 16th February. Mrs and Mites Mander, wife and daughter of Jlr. Mander, M.P., are guests of Mrs. Mac Vicar. On Tuesday, Jtrs. Ernest Hadfield Is giving a kitchen tea in honour of Miss Bendall, whose marriage to Mr. Robioson takes place ehortly. Mrs. James Allen, wife of Mr. James Allen, M.P., has arrived from the South, and is etaying at Miss Malcolm's. Mrs. Arnold, wife of Mr. Arnold, M.P., left for Dunedin on Thursday j evening. ' _ Mrs. Hasclden arrived yesterday from Auckland, and is stay ins at tho Empire Hotel. " L Miss Rita Kebbell, of Ngarata, is a guest of Mrs. Kebbell. • Mrs. and Miss Mabel Atkinson, who have been guests of Miss Richmond, lsave for Nelson to-day. Mr. and Mrs. Gore Adams, who have been staying with Mr. and Mrs. Adam&, at the Hutt, left by the lonic to-day for Chili via Monte Video. Mrs. Algar Willipms's fancy-dress juvenile party, given by her little daughter Juliot, and which was postponed owing to the death of Mr. Williams's uncle, takes place next Friday. All those formerly invited are asked to come. The Kia Ora centre of the Girls' Realm Guild purpose giving a garden party on Saturday afternoon in the gar-dell of Mrs. Stevens. A special feature will be the display of dolls in the dress of all nations, and a prize is to be given to the best. These dolls will be on saleafterwards, and those not disposed of will be sent as Christmas gifts to the various Children's Homes. There are also blouse and cushion competitions. Mrs. Steward, of Bolton-terrace, is giving a euchre party and dance in the Guilford Hall on Friday next, in aid of the Pioneer Stall of the Wadestown Church Bazaar. Tho temperature, actual and menial, was decidedly sultry in the House last nijjhfc, and a stormy debate lasted till nearly two o'clock. The Ladies' Gallery had four occupants — one of them being Miss Beatrice Day — till long past midnight. Yesterday afternoon, in the rooms ot the Women's Christian Temperance Union in Conslable-street, the annual meeting was held, Mrs. Boxall, the president,' in the chair. The report was read. The twenty-fourth annual convention, which met in Wellington, and Mrs. K. Lente Stevenson's visit to our city, was dealt with, and reference made to the work done in the way of drawingroom meetings, visits of the Singing Band to the hospital and the Ohiro Home, and the weekly visits to the hospital paid by a member. Parcels of literature in connection with the cause have been sent to the backblocks. At the Lower Hutt on 4th August the first district convention was held. A new branch, the Wellington Central, was formed 1 in October. A balance, was shown of £5 17s 83d, and a hearty vote of thanks passed to the Hey. W. Shirer, who sent in the building fund report. Mr. Boxall, who painted the new banner, and has also been most helpful, also received a rote of thanks. The following officers were elected : — President, Mrs. Boxall ; . secretary, Mrs. Hayes ; treasurer, Mrs.' Houlder ; vice-presidents, Mesdames Kirk, Wright, Millar, Lowe, and Atkinson. The marriage will take place next Monday afternoon of Miss Agnes Laura Simeon, fifth daughter of Mr. Fred Simeon, of Johnsonvilfe, and Mr. Fred J. Ellison, of the Wellington Telegraph Department. Owing to a recent family bereavement the wedding is to .be a quiet one. Much interest was taken in a weeding at Greytown on Thursday, when Mr. Arthur Moffat Haigh and Miss Ellen Elizabeth Robinson were married by the Eev. W. J. Elliott. The wedding' took place on. the lawn at "Pine Grove," the residence of Miss Robinson, of her parents, and grand-parents before her. The 1 bridesmaids were Miss F. Alleny of Pahiatua, and Miss C. Saywell (cousin of the bride), and Mr. C. Haigh and Mr. Keith Robinson (brothers of tho contracting parties) acted as best man and groomsman. The bride wore a handsome princesse robe of Oriental satin, with veil and orange blossoms. The bridesmaids wore heliotrope, with heliotrope sweet-pea bouquets. Afternoon tea was served on lawn, Mrs. Ross (sister of the bride) acting as hostess. . Carroll's for cakes has now become a by-word. The dainty and toothsome confections that are made by the new baker are a surprise. Light as it is possible to make pastry, and delicious to taste. Such are the cakes at Carroll's.
