RAILWAY FATALITY.
OLD AGE PENSIONER KILLED AT PETONE. An accident, which was attended with fatal consequences, occurred at Petone this morning. As a train was drawing into the station a few minutes after 8 o'clock, a man named Edwin Cox, an old age pensioner residing at the Hutt, was seen walking on the railway line near the crossing at the north end signalbox. The driver of the engine blew the whistle of the locomotive four times as a warning. Cox hesitated, and appeared to be turning to cross the line, when the engine knocked him down and injured him to such an extent that he died in the hospital at 11.30. He was attended to by Dr. Harding before he , was removed from Petone. The deceased has left a widow and family. An inquest is to be held at the hospital at 4.30 p.m. on Monday.
