The Daily Chronicle this morning publishes an, extraordinary "Special Message from Spiritlandyf* furnished, it is stated, by the late Mr. W. E. Gladstone, at Mr. W. T. Stead's desire, through the medium of "Julia's Bureau." The message deals with the pnsent political situation, and extends over two columns of space. Mr. Gladstone thinks "the Lords will act most ill-ad visedly if they reject the Budget," and adds : "I am in agreement with the principles embodied in , the [Finance] Bill ; but some of the •licensing clauses are too crudely constructed." Respecting the Houso of Lords as a general question, ths departed statesman "expresses strong antagonism to their predominance, though he favours a Second Chamber." Im another passage Mr. Gladstone "considers Mr. Lloyd-George [the Chancellor of the Exchequer] lacks steadiness and balance."
