ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETIES.

ANNUAL CONFERENCE. The annual conference of New Zealand Acclimatisation Societies will bo held on Thursday next. The following delegates aro expected to attend: — Messrs. E. N. Liffiton (Wanganui), C. A. Fitzroy and H. G. Smith (Hawkes Bay), Dr. Moorhouse and G. B. Ritchie (Canterbury), Vernon Reed, M.P. (Bay of Islands , P. H. Cox and A. H. Shury (Ashburton). W. Pollard (Marlborough), R. Chisholm and C. W- Chamberlain (Otago). Mr. C. I. Dasent (Wellington) is secretary to the conference. The following remits will be considered and dealt with : — That it is desirable that there should be a uniform season throughout the Dominion for deer shooting — red and fallow. — Wellington. I That the bag of game be limited in the case of ducks, pukeko, and native {>igeons, to ten brace per day for any icense-holder. — Wellington. | That this conference urge the Govornmenfc to proclaim a close season in 1910 for all imported game other than deer throughout the whole Dominion, ! and that for one season hares be de- j clared game in those "districts where they are not game, or, in the alternative, that the Government be asked so to do in any district in which the local society may so recommend. — Wanganui. That the Government be requested to remove the protection from stoats and weasels throughout the Dominion — Southland. That the selling of game in a. district where no selling licenses are issued be prohibited. — Waimarino. That this society considers it extremely dangerous to introduce the grey owl — at all events in the North Island. In future, before any birds or animals are introduced, the affiliated societies should be consulted. — Hawkes Bay. That the advisableness of providing for a gun tax .be considered. — Canter- ] bury. That in game licenses the amount should be variable as in the case of fishing licenses. — Otago. That a heavy license fee be imposed on all persons using automatic guns on game. — Otago. That half-yearly fishing licenses should be available for the whole of New Zealand, the same as whole season licenses. — Otago.
