EXTRAORDINARY CASE.
ROBBERY AND VIOLENCE. \tl TELEGRAPH — PBESS ASSOCIATION.] AUCKLAND, 30th October. An extraordinary case of robbery with violence occurred last night. A lady who came from Fiji to undergo a serious operation, was placed in a cab in Queenstreet by a doctor, who instructed a man who jumped on the box and assumed the driver's seat, to drive the lady to a private hospital. The driver, instead of taking the lady there, drove her in the direction of Onehunga. The lady protested to the man that she had been carried beyond her destination, whereupon, she alleges, he left his seat, struck her, stole her gold rings and jewellery and a considerable sum of money. The doctor subsequently .proceeded to the private hospital to see the patient, and, finding she was not there, communicated with the police. Six constables were detailed to search for the lady, and found her at Onehunga. The police sent her to a private hospital. She was suffering from shock. The cab was found in Queen street again, but the driver had disappeared. The cabman, it is staled, was having his tea, when a man known to the police assumed the role of driver. So far'^ie has not been arrested.
