ADJUSTMENT OF, RATES.
TO TUB «DFTOJ». Sir, — As a ratepayer of 'Wellington and a resident of j^brthland, I am more than pleased to see the notice of motion brought foryvard by Councillor Fitzgerald in connection with tho long, overdue adjustment of rates between Karori and Wellington 'Boroughs, and trust that this important matter will be fully discussed in open council next meeting and given the consideration it deserves. The ■Municipal Corporations 'Act fctaies that a commission shall be set up to adjust fch.9 finances between local bodies, aaid nothing of a satisfactory , nature can. ba arrived at until the commission set up by Order-in-Council decides .the actual position of things between 'the two* boroughs. Evidently the old councillors do not realise that valuable' asEets are lying unclaimed. Also re a report iocouncil; Mr. Luke advocates more liberal 1 treatment to Kilbirnie at the expense of! Wadestown and Northland. As these districts have received nothing so far,, will 3lr. Luke be good enough to tell his electors what his future proposals are,, and if he is in favour of spending a fair proportion of '.he rate in the district' from which it is collected*? In conclusion, I emphatically protest against' 'building up one part of the suburbs electorate at the expense of others. — I am, etc., GEORGE FORNEY. Greaf Britain's imported food averages £3 4s lid per head of the population For Colds in the Head and Influenza, Woods Grput Peppermint Cure, Is 6d and 2s 6d per bottle.— Advt.
