I The New Zealand professional team of footballers playing under Northern Union rules, defeated Australia by 19 to 11 About 10,000 spectators witnessed the game, which was not conspicuous for its brilliancy. The services of J. Spencer were lost to the New Zealand team thiough an accident, Houso filling !vs p!<icc. New Zealand's tackling showed great inipiovement on previous displays, but stateness was in evidence on both sides r . Tne . Australians lacked combination. I'he visitors showed decidedly th? belter play in the first half, obtaining thieo tries, none of which were converted. In the second half Australia attacked \igorously. and levelled matters with a tiy which was converted. The good combination of the New Zealand team, however, put them in tlje lead ao-ain with 14 to 8. ' ° The Australians next added a try, and immediately afterwards were kept on the defensive. This lasted almost to the end of the spell, New Zealand adding another try which was converted, the .Australians failing to increase their score before the whistle sounded.
