THE ESTIMATES.
REDUCED EXPENDITURE SANCTIONED. The estimates for the financial year commenced lbt April last, which were submitted to the council, provide for a touil of £36,000 expenditure on roads, being a reduction of £5000 on the amount originally suggested. The sug- ; gested general rate and the hospital rate are to be the same as for last year. The estimates, after a long discussion upon them, were adopted as a whole, though the matter of reduction ' has been left open. The City Engineer is to be asked to report to" the Finance Committee as to -what works can be cut out, with least detriment to the city, fro as to save £5000 on the whole.
