News comes from Pittsburg, the great manufacturing centre of Pennsylvania, of a terrible explosion and fire in the Pittsburg Coal Company's Narr mine, at Jacob's Greek. Two hundred and fifty miners, Americans and Hungarians, are entombed in tho workings. Dense volumes of smoke and fierce flames issuing from the mouth of the mine rendered the chances of rescuing the imprisoned men alino9fc hopeless at first. Fans are now working, however, forcinjg air through tho ventilatingshafts, and it is hoped that soms of the unfortunate men mny bo still alive. Llying on a coalfield, in a district which at ono time afforded considerable supplies of iron ore (now nearly exhausted), and at the confluence, of important navigable streams, Pittsburg early became the greatest centro of the manufacture of iron and glass in tho United States, which it still remains, now producing about 0110-third of the- iron and steel j manufactured in the country. The coal layer, which extends around the city, is of Considerable dimensions.

At a meeting of the Board of Management of the V.M.C.A., hold last evening, Lho following officers were elected for the ensuing year : — President, Mr, J. G. W.
