Tho Wanpanui crew had been rowing woH at Wanganui. and had yon tyro cvorits in the local club racc.^ For some titiiH pa*t tho "Wellington rrow had been consistently i rained by Dr. Foil, who succeeded in producing a good uniform stroke. TJio Wanganui boys had Ihe ad \antago of weight. Thoy looked a much fUrimg-or "nrcw, and tiii.-=, combined with goorl lovrinfr, succeeded in winning them tho race. Tlip Wellington boys put up a ver? creditable stand, and "fought tho batilo to tho finifh. From tho start the visitors mado the paro warm, and when ;i short distance had been covored, gradually and ofleetivoly drew ahead, und finished about four lengths ahead of their opponents. Tho crows with their weights were as follows : — Wanganui— Morrison list 21b (stroke), Chamberlain list 81b (3), Rutherford list 151 b (2), aid Darker 10s! 121 b (bow). Wellington— Fell lOsfc lib (stroke), Burnet lOst slb (3), Fitchctt 9st 81b (2), and Bennett iOst 21b (bow)
