ADDITIONAL MEMBERS OP THE ' EXPEDITION. [BT TELKGBAPH — I'UESS ASSOCIATION.] I CHRLSTCHURCH, .19th December. A further contingent of the shore party associated with Lieutenant Shackelton's Antarctic expedition arrived by the Moeraki this morning. All are youn^ men of sturdy type. Among the new° comers is Dr. Marshall, who is to act as senior suTgeon, assisting also in the magnetic survey and general survey work. Dr. Marshall wals educated at Emanuel College, Cambridge, and has been engaged at Bartholomew's Hospital, London. Mr. R. E. .Priestly, the geologist, was educated at Bristol College, Lieutenant Adams, R.N.R., late of H.'M.S. BerAvick, is to engage in meteorological work. Mr. Bernard Day, who is to drive the motor-car, has been engaged at the works of the Arrol Johnston Car Company, and has been intimately associated with the construction of the car to be used on the journey towards the Pole. He is a driver of wide experience. Mr. F. Wild, who is a. petty officer in the navy, has been "lent" by the Admiralty. He took part in the sledge journeys of the Discovery expedition. Ho will have charge of the "sledges. Mr. G-. E. Marslon is the artist of tho expedition. Ho lately held a responsible post as art master in London. Mr. E. Joyce, who is bringing up the dogs from Stewart Island, was with the Discovery expedition, and Accompanied Lieutenant Barno on the south-western sledge journey. He will have charge of the dogs Dr. Marshall and Lieutenant Adams will operate the cinematograph. They have to face a very large amount of work in order to be ready for the departure South on Ist January, and Christchurch is demanding thafc they should undertake social engagements on an extensive scale. Yesterday Lieutenant Shackle! on had to address a gathering of school children and attend a banquet, in addition to dealing with a mass of correspondence and looking after i score of details in connection with the expedition. The children presented him with a Christinas hamper, and drew from him a touching reference to the plum pudding treasured while South with the Discovery in the toe of a moderately clean sock. The ponies are now fairly well broken, and seem jjirlinptJ to lake to work with a good spirit.
