The French troops aro encircling Casablanca with strong fortifications. The Madukra and other powerful tribes have decided to continue the struggle. Most of the tribesmen who submitted were, it appeal's, afraid to surrender. Brigadier-General Drude, from Oran, who has command of tho laud forces, is a young officer, promoted to his present rank only three months ago. He has seen active service in Tonquin, Dahomey, and China. He is thought highly of as a man of strong determination and quick decision.
