HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES. FRIDAY, 19th JULY. The House of Representatives continued its sitting after the Po=t went to press yesterday. The Coalmines Act Amendment Bill was icad-a second timo pro forma, and referred to the Mines Conimittee. PURE FOOD. Tho Minister fcr Public Health moved the adoption of tho committee's report on the Piue Food Bill, which was read a third time -and parsed. RECOMMITTED. The Public Trust Amendment Bill was recommitted for tho purpose of reconsidering clause 4. on a point raised by Mr. Massey that it was an appropriation clause, and had not been iutr&duced by Governor's Message. The Premier moved to have the clause struck out. This was agreed to, and the Bill was read a third time and passed ROTORUA TOWN BILL. The Rotorua Town Bill, which proposes to vest tho management of the town of Rotorua in the Tourist Department, was committed. Clause 3 provided that tho management of the town should be managed by tho "General Manager" of the Tourist Department. The Premier, who was in charge of the Bill, moved to strike out the Avords ''gerieral manager" so as to leave the management in the hands of the department generally. Mr. Herries urged that tho work management should bo done by a small board to be appointed. by tho Government. - , __ The Premier said there was a necessity to centre tho responsibility, and he could nqt agree to the suggestion. Tho amendment was agreed to and tho" clause »nassed.Another amendment was made piovidin" 1 for the Act coming into operation on Ist September of this year. The committee also agreed to' give tho department all the powers at present held by the Maori Council over the village of Ohinemutu. The Bill was reported with amendments. TOHUNGAISM. An interesting discussion (reported elsewhere) took pkee on tho second reading of the Tohunga Suppression Bill. The Houso roso at 5.30 p.m.
