Tho club has opened its winter racing carnival, and there' is every indication 'of, a bumper attendance. The" sky is slightly' overcast, hut tho wind is not so "keen as in the city. , Tho course is in beautiful 'order, and the wide sweep of lawn has never looked greener. Tho track is hold-, inpr, and promises' to improve as the day progresses. A number of Tcpresentative racing people are present, including' Sir Geo. Clifford and Hon. G. M'Lean, and his Excellency the Governor is also at tho meeting, as well as the Premier and, Lady Ward. Hon. .J. A. Millar (Minister of Labour), Messrs. W. F. Herries.E. W. Alison, T. Wilfprd, M.H.R.'s. Music js being provided by tLe Wellington Professional Orchestra. Fields will bo large, and tho contests should be keenly fought out.
