The Higher Court at Mombasa reversed the sentences on Captain Grogan and Mr. Grey for flogging natives at Nairobi, in British East Africa. Tho court did not ordct a now trial, as tho imprisonment had already been undergone. Tho affair occurred in March last Owing to tho lack of police protection, tho natives at Nairobi insulted several whito women~among them being Captain Grogan's sister and a lady friend. In 1 this case the three natives concerned wore secured, and Captain Grqgan and his friends agreed that the only way to get justice dono wap to take tho law into their own hands. The punishment was inflicted by Captain Grogan and Messrs. Bowker and Gray, who each flogged a nativo severely in front of the local courthouse, in presence of the Magistrate, Mr. Logan, and a largo number of "boys " The Magistrate was said to bp in a condition of fright, and powerless to interfere. Captain Grogan and four others were subsequently arrested and sentenced to terms oi imprisonment varying from one month to seven d«ys, besides deing fined.
