In working rings tho contra is punched \\ ilh a stiletto, and the needle always put into ths hole thus made, iho work can bo done with mercerised cottons in Oriental shades*. It is admiiable for certain burdcis, portieres, and the bordcis of tablecloths. A beautiful exampb of Wiilaohian embroidery was recently exhibited in a tablecloth made of the amber coloured material sold lor making blinds. The Oriental design was cavri'd out solely in /shades of china blue, hilpod out with a touch of black. The cmbiuideiy was confined entirely to the border, 'which wav finished on the iusido edge with a heavy row of satin stitching.
