Tho market rate of discount for bsst tluee months' bills is uucuanjjed at oi per cent. The Bank of England rate is * per cent., as against 4jr per cent, on ioth April, and o per cent, on 11th. April. COLONIAL AND OTHER PRODUCE. Wheat. — Tho markets ara quiet, aud wheat is rather slower to bell, owing to faFOurablo weather reports from America and Europe, and tho improved crop reports from South iiutsia. Official reports from tho Garrnan iimplre indicato a crop of 11,000,000 quarters, as compared with a yield of 18,000,000 quarters in 1906. Victorian, April shipment, 253 6d to 35s 9d, South Australian, March fchipment, 353 3d, April, 35s 6tl, June-July, 365; New South Wales, February, 31j td. Flour is quiet, but steady. Tho Glasgow quotation is 275. Butter. — Tho market is stale. There is a demand for a few choicast Australian at 94s to 965; Ncvr Zealand ..3i to 100s. Thero is no sa!o for second:. los. Cfieese is firm. New Z^land white, 66s to 6Ss; coloured 63s to i\s; Victoria is selling at 60s to 645, d'.ipito tho small size and palo colour; tlu high prico is chiefly owing to the scarcity of secondary cheese. Bradford Tops. — Merino counts aro firm, but crossbreds aro neglected. Common 60's, 263 d, super. 60s. 272 d per lb. THE METAL MARKETS. Copper.— Spot, 303 lower, at £101; three mop ths £2 15s lower, at £97 5s per ton. Tin. — Spot, 15s lower, at £189 ss ; thrco months', 10s higher, at £186 per ton. THE GRAIN MARKET. | [BT TEIJtOBAPH.— PBESB ASSOCIATION.] CHRISTCHURCH, 31st May. No second sales beyond 4s 6d, f.0.b., for milling, and 4s 3d, f.0.b., for fowl wheat aro reported. Farmers have not yet begun to make offerings, and the only sale reported is of 12,000 bushels in equal quantities of Hunter's Pearl and Tuscan. Station flour has advanced to £11 per toe. The oats market is vory firm, and thero ii a rise in Southland. Merchants there aro reported to hold very short stocks, and thero is very little offering from tho country. Southland has been supplying tho North Island, but shipping much loss than last year to Australia. Oatsheaf chaff is firmer, and supplies are difficult to obtain under £4 per ton. Thero i? no change in potatoes, thero being only a small coastal demand, Auckland - being supplied from Tasmania. Dalgety and Co., Limited, Wellington, have received tho following cable messages from Londpn, dated 30th instant :— Frozen Meat. — Prices for mutton in general are unchanged. Thero is a moderate i demand for lamb at unchanged pricos. Wo quote Now Zealand ox-beef, hinds, 3Jd to 3Zd per lb. Butter.— The Copenhagen official quotation is unchanged. Thß total imports of butter into the United Kingdom for week ending 25th instant amounted to 92,000cwt, as compared with 76,000cwt for the corresponding week of last year. Tallow. — Tho market is unchanged. There is a good demand for low and inferior descriptions, but poor demand for mutton tallow.
