MALADIES CURED BY MUSIC.
- m Many readers may perhaps have heard of an experiment made a few years ago to determine the effect of music upon the sick. It was then found that, in nervous disorders in particular, the music of an orchestra had a distinctly beneficial effect. This idea has now been extended and improved upon by a medical electrician in England, who has devised a plan by which the patient is placed in direct contact with an organ, so that the tone vibrations can permeate every part of the body and assist in restoring that physical condition that is the first requisite of health. The patient is laid at full length in a cot, constructed of thin wood, in the form of a soundingboard or box, attached to the sides of a full set of organ-pipes. The performer sits at the key-board, and the effect of his music on the patient is said to be very beneficial. The organ was selected on account of its great fulness and continuity of tone.
