CHARGE AGAINST MASTERS. [BY TELEGRAPH — PRESS ASSOGTATION.] NELSOX, 21st October. At the Magistrate's Court, William Fitzgerald, resident master, and John M'Fadden, schoolmaster, at the Stoke Industrial School, -were charged with assaulting George Coifield, an inmate of the school, aged seventeen years, who was at service for some time near Wanganui, but was returned to the school. Corfield deposed that M'Fadden, after ordering him to stand, shook him by the shirt-collar, and that Fitzgerald struck him with his fist. M'Fadden also hit him with his fist. There was evidence thnt Corfield swore at the master, and that Fitzgerald struck him with his open hand. For the defence there was evidence that Corfield was disobedient. Fitz'sl'ald said he was indiscreet in slapping him, bin thought it the most satisfactory way of dealing with a boy of that sort.
