o The Thorndon Cricket Club, after meeting with great initial difficulties in getting a ground convenient to Thorndon, has now secured serviceable pitches, including one of asphalt laid out on the M-ana-watu Company's ground near the Esplanade Hotel, and looks forward to a useful season. At a special general meet- 1 ing of members held last evening, the following were appointed a Match Committee for the junior competition (the highest grade in which the club is "competing this year) : — Messrs. C. S. Smyth, F. Sampson, and P. Mackie. The election of Match Committees for the Third and Fourth-class competitions was held over for the Managing Committee to deal with. Mr. P. Mackie was elected Deputy-Practice Captain. The Rev. H. L. Blamirte, the club's Practice Captain and an old Australian cricketer, has unfortunately been ill, and has not been able to attend practice ; he hopes to put in an appearance to-morrow afternoon. Mr. Hannay, the general* manager of the Wellington and Manawatu Railway Company, was, on the motion of Dr. Arnold W. The club has unanimously elected Mr. Hannay an" honorary "Vice-President in recognition of his assistance. The ground and asphalt pitches will be ready for practice to-morrow afternoon. On Mr. H. Buck's ' motion, a hearty vote of thanks was passed to Dr. Izard for the trouble he has taken jn trying to get a, suitable ground for practice and for his interest in the club's welfare. ■
