A large audience gathered at the Theatfti Royal last evening, when the lengthy programme was thoroughly enjoyed, every 1 one of the performers being encored. STEPHENSON'S- MtFSICAL tfOMEDY COMPANY. Mr. George Stephenson's new English Musical Comedy Company, will arrive early to-morrow mol'ning by the s.s: Waikare, and will make its first appearance ' in New Zealand at the Opera House tomorrow night. The opening attraction will be "The Rose of~the Riviera," a' musical comedy that has been a big success in England. The music is said tb be ea£ ceptionally bright and tuneful, several of the numbers beihg recognised musical gems. A feature of the production,' it io stated, will be the magnificence of the dressing and mounting: It was acknowledged by Sydney and Melbourne critics a» - being If not excelling, anything ' ever Been in the colonies. Last evening St. John's choir was entertained at a social gathering by thft church managers in recognition of its services to the church.
