OUR DEFENCE FORCES.

The Petone Navals will go into camp for thoir annual instruction on the Ist November, and will man the Botanical Garden*, Kaiwarra, and Ngahauran'ga batteries. There has long been a need for better shelter for the men at the Garden and Ngahaur&nga batteries, and this is now being afforded. Light barracks are being erected at both batteries, consisting of good sized sheds with quarters for both officers and men. . That at the Ngahauranga battery is already completed, and fitted with the necessary bunks, etc, and one for the Gardens battery is in course of ereotbn.
