C. Walker, Minister for Education, and Messrs. Laurenson and Barclay, M.H.R.'s. The' Mayor was eulogised for his progressive ideas and sound administration of the borough affairs. The Hon. Mr. Walker addressed the gathering, touching on the general policy of the Government and I educational matters. To-day the Minisj ter is to be driven over the proposed route for a deviation qf the main line of railway to touch Waimate, and will also inspect a block of 300' to 400 acres near Waimate, recommended ,to be bought for workmen's homos. Tho Agricultural Department has been instructed to purchase several pairs of carriage horses for the use of the Duke and Duchess of York.
