At the inquest on the body of William Oodlin, which was found under the Cemetery bridge, from which he* is supposed to have jumped, the jury returned a verdict of Suicide while Temporarily Insane. A limited knowledge of the operation of lifts nearly caused the death of Philip Murdoch, who recently entered the employ of Messrs. Archibalfl Clark and Sons, At about 4.30 yesterday afternoon Mr. Murdoch, yfho is the youngest son of City Councillor Murdoch, was engaged with another employee at the lift in the firm's warehouse in Victoriastreet. Murdoch, who was on the top floor, was looking over the railing of tho well, and when asked by the other if everything was right, is understood to have replied in - the affirmative. The result was that the lift came down, and before Murdoch could draw back his head was jammed against the railing. The presence of mind of his fellow ' employee in stopping the lift fortunately prevented a fatal accident. Dr. Hislop attended to his injuries, which consisted of a bad cut on the upper lip and a concussion to the back of the head.
