TRUE BILLS. The Grand Jury returned True Bills in the following cases : — Walter George Williamson, attempted murder; Mary Louise M'Gregor alias Discher, theft ; Gilbert Laurenson, theft; Richard Up-* derwood and John Siddels, robbery w itli violence; Edward Farrier (Brother \V\bertus), four charges common and indecent assault ; James Solan (Brother ICilian), two charges .of assault. NO BILL. . The Grand Jury threw out the Bill against James Doyle, indicted for assault, and robbery, stating that the principal witness had failed to attend. Ac cus&d was accordingly discharged,

REQUEST FOR PROBATION. William Dolan, who -was found guilty yeaterday of receiving stolen property, canie -up fov sentence. Accused asked to be put upon probation. His Honour pointed out that accused had alreadybeen on probation for an offence at Westport. This accused denied, and the case was adjourned for further enquiries In the afternoon Constable M'Kinnon was called, and proved a previous conviction against the accused dated about thirteen year* ago. His Honour said he had no doubt the accused committed the complete offence with which he was charged. The jury hcwQver, had* only convicted on the minor charge, and on that ha should sentence him to six months' imprisonment i» tho Terrace Gaol". ARSON. Tho hearing of tho charge of arson against Mary Hawkins was continued. At the conclusion of the case for the Crown Mr. Mooro intimated that he did not propose to call evidence for the defence. After an hour's retirement tho jury brought in a verdict of "Not Guilty." A SERIOUS CHARGE. Sydney Edward Bluett was charged with having committed an offence against a girl under sixteen years of age at Pahiatita, on 22nd September. Charies Miller, an old offender, pleaded Guilty to stealing a checks from the dwelling of Phil.•lip 'NiclioUs, who had takgn him in and befriended him.' Accused was sentenced to five years' imprisonment. John I>rydeu Webber pleaded Guilty to stealing ia horsa, gig, and set of harness. The ca;se was deferred to next day. Edwin Wilson was found Guilty of larceny of £S5, and' remandted for the report of the Probation Officer. Thos. Barldo, for larceny of a. bicycle, was sentenced to thi'ee months' imprisonment.
