DISEASED MEAT. TO THE EDITOR.
Sir, — Your correspondent "Pater Familias" deserves the thanks of the meat-consuming public for his outspoken remarks, drawing attention to the fact that other than inspected meat is openiy sold in this city. An Adelaide cablegram of 4th. November, which appeared in your columns, sets forth that the Chief Inspector of Stock reports an alarming discovery 1 , viz., that "beef measles" lias been found in cattle. The discovery is considered of serious importance, as if "measley beef" be consumed by man it may give . rise to adult tapeworm . "Pater Familias's" letter and the cablegram quoted should surely rouse our dormant authorities to a proper ser^e of their duties, and. none other than ]Jfcpi?r inspected meat should be allowed within the city. I trust, sir, your able pen will be used in the interest of public health ; a few inquiries will satisfy you that only about half the meat sold' in this city » is inspected by properly qualified men. — I am, etc., PURITY.
