In 'the Ciirterton Hack Race vis horse Dumdum boiled with hh rider, just before tho race started, and ran twice round the course, when Mr. Pilmer, who was on horseback on the track, intercepted tho excited animal, and brought him to a standstill. Mr. Macara's mare Greenslceves .started in -<he last race, and was considered to have a good chance of winning, but the cm-ct of the starting machine caught the horse's leg at the start, and put tho animal clean out of the running.
