PHOENIX v. OLD. BOYS.

Getting first strike on No. 1 wicket, the Old Boys made a prdmising start, Wedde and Kirckcaldie. giving a lot of trouble and scoring fast. sAftor tapping double figures, Wedde fell jn victim to a catch behind the stumps off Benbow. A fine stand was made by Jadobs and Kirkcaldie, though the scoring yrae not on the fast side. The latter eventually succumbed to a clinker from Wells. He had com-

piled his runs by very neat cricket.. Other players failed to make satisfactory) headway against tho bowling, and the wickets fell rapidly until Gilmer joined!' Jacobs. After a creditable performance, the latter was sent to the right-about by, a lbw decision. His runs were obtained by patient and chaaceless cricket.*, Gilmer batted vigorously — in striking;! contrast to the exhibition of most of his> club-mates, and at the close of the itmingsu he was still unbeaten with 20 to his' credit, the numbers including five three's, and a four. Wells met with the best* success at the bowling creases — he did!' really well. The fielding, in some instances, was slovenly. Phoenix, when stumps were drawnd had made 88 for fche loss of five wickets,, Midlane heading the list with a capitallyplayed 40 not out, followed by Burton,.. 18. Clarke, Waters, Benbow, and Hai^ ley wpe all dismissed for small coairibu-t tions. The fielding of the Oid Boyu waa< an improvement on their exhibition in'! the previous match.
