Passengers : Cabin— lo9 excursionists ; 55 steerage Under cbarter to Messrs Pitcaithley, Wallace and Co, the schooner Emma Sims will load produce at Lyttelton for this port. A San Francisco paper announces that the Ventura, the third and last of the big- freight and passenger steamships that are being- built, at Philadelphia for the Oceanic Steamship Co, was launched on 26th September at Cramp's shipyard. A niece of Air Jv Spreckels, President of, the company, gave the vessel its name. The Sierra and Sonoma, the Ventura's sister ships, were to go on their trial trips a few wfeeks after the launch of the Veutm'H. Cnptain Newman, formerly of the Surprise, has with others pui-chased the ■ auxiliary schooner Hercules. Captain Christian, of_ the schoonor Norval, takes charge of the Surprise.
