IN OTHER PARTS OF THE COLONY. [BY TELEGRAPH.— PRESS ASSOCIATION.] NELSON, 29th October.
The Central Buller correspondent of the Colonist telegraphs that the Buller and! Matakitaki rivers are in the highest flood remembered. The Matakitaki dredge ' broke from her moorings and foundered 1 300 yards lower down the river. Three 1 spans of the Matakitaki bridge have been carried away, consequently no communi: cation with the Four River Plain dredge has been possible, but it was safe at five o'clock., The rivers were falling slightly at dusk. In Nelson a strong northerly gale has been experienced, but no damage is reported, though the fruit trees have suffered. At Motueka old settlers declare the gale to, have been the severest known. Enormous damage to the fi-uit crops te reported. Many trees were uprooted, windows were blown in, and the roof of a stable was blown olean away. GREYMOUTH, 29th October, Rain fell all 1 Sunday and to-day. The river is. heavily flooded. Damage to the town is not apprehended. Rain has ceased inland. The Dobson No. 2 dredge has broken away, and drifted down the river opposite to the racecourse.
