POST AND TELEGRAPH DEPARTMENT. TO THE EDITOR.

Sir — Through your columns I wish to draw the attentitm to- a -'grievance and dissatisfaction that is widespread amongst the members of the Post and Telegraph Department. I refer to the .very long delay in making a number of changes and .promotions to fill vacant positions. A few of these changes were announced a few weeks back, but there are still several to come, and some of them are of over, eighteen months' standing. Promotion to the subordinates comes slow enough without "having it delayed in this shameful manner, When it is lawfully due. By the Supplementary Estimates three of the principal administrative officers of the Department -got their salaries increased by £100 a piece, and a couple of lessev lights in the same office got £50 each, a little previously. All these increases were in excess of classification. It is. hoped that now these gentlemen have managed so .well that they will be able to spare a 'little time to mete out justice tc some of their hardworking and underpaid subordinates, at least to , those of them who are entitled to promotion by law. : ' I am, etc., !
