THE COMING ROYAL VISIT.
It is more than likely (s»ys the fashion writer of the Melbourne Argus) that one re«ult of the visit of the Duchess of York to Australia will be to give a smart hup tp fashion., Tho Duchess's Htyle of dress is bound to be largely copied ; every woman in ey«rytown that Royalty will vwit will bring a critical eye to bear on the Royal gowns, and, this being so, it « lucky that we shall have fluch «, good model to imitate, for Princess May of lock, who as a girl had not too much money to spend on clothes, and was, therefore compelled to be content wna a very modest wardrobe, has since her marriage blossomed forth into one of tho 6est-d!ressed women in England. It is not only that she wears expensive dresses bufc she shows great taste in choosing them. Her mother-in-law, the Princess of Wales, is confessedly her model, and at H.R.H.'s taste ia world-famed, she !hat passed on tho happy tradition of dressing well to her daughter-in-law. Although the Duchess is totally unlike the Princess in figure, being very much stouter, it has been remarked several times ilately that at large functions the crowd ftave sometime* mistaken ono lady for «he other. Tire Duchess is one of those who set the mode of wearing immense quantities •of jewels in the day-time, diamonds, sapphires and turquoises being the gems most often teen on these occasions. Like most of our Princes&cs, she still keeps to the somewhat stereotyped style of doing her hair, made bo familiar to us by numerous photographs of the Royal ladies, a thick fringe, as tightly curled at astrakhan, coming low down on the forehead, with a little curl giving point to the cento*.:
