Finland has now got the same complaint, and is an unlikely starter for the Derby. Heavy rain fell during the night. This morning Severity went two miles on the tan in 3min 48sec — the best gallop seen for years. Maltster, in front of Paul Pry, Hora.ce, and War God, did some capital gallops. , Tarquin went eleven furlongs strongly, and Fleet Admiral, Labourer, and Ballistite did good work over a mile. Dirk Hammerhand was sent a mile and a half at a strong pace. Derby betting— s to 4 against Maltster, 6 to 4 Kinglike. Cup— loo to 11 against Lancaster, 100 to 8 each Severity and Merriwee, 100 to 7 each George Frederick, War God, and Kinglike, 100 to 6 each Tarquin and La Cai-abine. Doubles— Maltster and Tarquin, and Kinglike and Tarquin, were each supported to the extent of 5000 to 100. RICC&RTON TRAINING NOTES. CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. A capital iribrning for time-making, the track being in splendid coundition, and the wind favourable. Somerled and Glenaladale went a mile and a furlong in 2min ssec. Scottish Minstrel, Torpina, and Cannie Chiel did medium pacing work. Miss Delaval beat Djin Djin by a length in a mile and quarter on the plough, the last mile being done in lmin sO£sec. Malatua galloped a mile and a half in 2min 38 l-ssec ; this was on the inside of the grass, and so far was the fastest mile and a half this season. Ideal and Renown stepped over six furlongs fast. Nihilist, St. Dennis, The Spiniier, Benzoin, and Terrapin did useful work. Fulmen and Materoa went a mile and a quarter in 2min 14sec, the last mile in lmin 46sec, Materoa slightly leading her companion. Derrett was on Fulmen, and both were ridden out. Huku, Whirlwind, Sara, Hawthorn, Seabrook, Hermosa, Spider, Blazer, Romanoff, Cora Linn, and Ladykiller all oid strong work. Strathnairn ran over a mile and a half at a good working pace, doing the first half mile in 66sec, and the last half ir 63sec. Several other hordes were out on the track 3, and were given some good useful gallops. There is very little betting over tho New Zealand Cup. Malatua is now quoted at 3 to 1, Tortulla 4 to 1, Dundas 5 to 1, Ideal 8 to 1, Strathnairn 10 to 1, Miss Deiaval, Huku, and Skobeloff each 12 to 1, Materoa ar\A Fulmen each 14 to 1 ; Djin Djin 25 to 1.
