A force consisting of a thousand Germans, Russians, and French from Tientsin has gone from Tientsin in order to protect the lines of communication against the Boxers. The allied columns, after converging at Paoftng-fu, in Chi-li, continued their march towards Cheng-ling-fu, about seventy miles south-west of that town, where there are many European mis-" sionaries and engineers.
