♦ The directors of the Wellington Bowling Club, •at their usual monthly meeting last night, decided to open their boAvling greens on Saturday , 6th October. Play has, hoAvever, already beun indulged in on the smaJl green, though the larger greens av'ill nob be lued till the opening day. The club has lately added to its valuable property by the purchase of aii allotment at tho back ot tho pavilion, having a frontage of some 50tt lo Ohiro road. Here it is intended to provide accommodation for the caretaker. A new feature in the programme for this season AA-ill be the introduction of a progressive match, played much on the same principle as progressiA'e euchro. The match Avill be a pairs one, two boAvls each, and will be played out in ono day the date >to be fixed later on— probably Anniversary Day. This gamo Avill take the place of the ordinary President and "Vice-President matches, ono prize to be given to ' tho Avinn'ing skip, and the other to tho winning leader. The ma.tch is a novelty for Avhich the club is indebted to Mr. AndreAv Campbell, of Melbourne, lately one of the club's Presidents. The rules in connection Avith. the Feathers' matches havo also been revised, in vieAV of the increased number of clubs iioav competing. Copies have been distributed to the 'various secretaries. • BoAvling still seems to bo increasing in popularity, as avo learn that clubs have iioav been iormed at Thames, Tauranga, Cambridge, Pahiatua, Marton, WoodA'ille, and Stratford, Arhila tho Northern Bowling Association has lately been strengthened by tho application* of two off-shoots of the Gisborne Club, the Kaili nnd Whataupoko. This brings tho strength of tho Association up to 29 clubs. An effort is being made in connection Avith the Canterbury Jubilee celebration to bring off an inter-Association scries of matches— North against South — on January next. There is no reason aa'lij' this should not be a pronounced success, as it is a. match, that has been brought under the notice of the NeAV Zealand Southern Association by their Northern brethren moro than once, but hitherto Avithoufc response. BoAvlers should not lack this season for scope to slioav their prowess, as they have, tho option of a round of gaieties in tho Melbourne; Cricket Club's Tournament in NoA-ember. Tho Northern BoAvling Association's Champion Fours' Tournament at Gisborne on 7th January, the Canterbury ''Jubilee- Tourney (North Island and South) on or about 14th January, tho Australasian BoAvling Team 1 -;' Home trip in April, and a proposed return visit to Australia about next Easter. The Northern BoAvling AMsnciation intends holding its annual meeting on Ist October. Aftenvarda there Avill be a general meeting, . Avhen matters in connection Avith the Gisborne Tournament Avill be gone into, and al«o f-'ome proposed alterations in tho rules.
