» FEDERATION WITH NEW ZEALAND. »[BY TELEGRAPH — PKESS ASSOCIATION^ AUCKLAND, 12th September. The Fiji Times, of the sth inst., says — A meeting was held at the offices, of Messrs. o. C. Smith and Co., on Monday evening last Avith tho object of forming a Committee to forward the movement of federation with New Zealand. The Chairman having stated tho purpose for which they wore gathered togetther, tlva matter was discussed at considerable length, all of those present taking part. It was eventually proposed by Dr. Fox, seconded by Mr. Stuart, and carried unanimously, "That it is desirable that a Federation League be formed and that the gentlemen present be constituted a Committee to further the movement of federation with New Zealand, with power to add to their number." It was resolved on the motion of Mr. Berkeley, seconded .by Mr. Rennie, "That a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Committee formed at Levuka." A sub-Committee consisting of Mr. Riemenschneider, Mr. Berkeley, and Dr. Fox was appointed to draw up a petition to be presented to the general Committee for discussion, a copy of the petition to be forwarded to the Levuka Committee. On the proposition of Mr. Berkeley, seconded by Dr. Fox, it was resolved "That the Chairman, on behalf of the gentlemen assembled at the meeting intimate to tho Premier of New Zealand their personal willingness to co-operate with him in the scheme fie has formulated for the federation of New Zealand with Fiji."
