AUCKLAND, 25th December. The interprovincial cricket matoh, Otago v. Auckland, was commenced in the Auckland Domuiu on Saturday morning. The weather was fine and the wicket fast though inclined to crumble at one end. The Otago skipper (Broad), on winning the toss, decided to take the wicket 'whilst was at its best. Otago's innings closed for a total of 132 —Baker, 36 ; Geddes, 39 ; Libia's, 24. Auckland followed with 261—1. Mills, 80 ; G. Mills, 11 ; Sterason, 76 ; Vail, 43 ; Elliott, 47; Wyuyard, 16'; Lusk (not out). 14. Of the Otago bowlers— Webb too£ four wickets for 98 ; Geddes, two for 40 ; Hope, none for 53 ; Austin, two for 40 ; Siedeberg, noue for 16* On play being resumed to-day, the wicket again favoured the batsmen. Otago, in the second iuniuga was only able to make 149— Johnston, 44 5 Austin, 34 ; Geddes, 16 ; Broad, 11 ; Liedeberg, 15, Auckland, requiring only 21 run 3to win, obtained them for the loss of one wicket (Hay's), and thus won by nine wickets.
The Rev. F. ,W. Macdonajd, President of the Wesleyan Methodist Conference, after conferring with the eye-Presidents and the Secretary of the Conference, has resolved to make an appeal to Methodist congregations throughout England on behalf of the Transvaal War Fund.
