Fiold-Marshal Lord Roberts, who goes to the Cape as Commander-in-Chief, was given a great publio ovation on leaving Waterloo station and also at Southampton. The Princess of Wales, the Duke of Cambridge and the Duke of Connaught were' present at Waterloo station to bid the , Field-Marshal farewell. Lord Roberts, on leaving, remarked ' that the great outburst of patriotism from all parts of the Empire was a good omen of success. LONDON, 25th December. The cruiser Jsis has arrived with Lord Kitchener at Malta from Cairo. The General, who is hurrying in order to join Field-Marshal Roberts at Madeira, immediately transferred to the cruiser Dido and proceeded on his journey.
