» DEATH OF A PROMINENT SURVEY OFFICIAL. [NY TET.i:CIIAt'H— I'HESS ASSOCIATION.] Njcw Plymouth, Tnis Day. Mr. F. E. Clarke, chief draughtsman in (lie Now Plymouth Survey Office, died rather suddenly on Saturday evening from heart disease. Deceased, who camo here from thn West Coast about five years ago, was a great authority on sea fisheries. Ouo who served his mothor country nnd his adopted colony in llio field passed away yesterday morning in tbo person of Mr. Patrick Flanagan. Deceased camo to New Zealand 52 years ngo witb the 58th Regiment, under the command of Capt. Russell, father of -the present Lender of the i Opposition. For some time ho was stationed in mid about Auckland Province, taking part in the Mnori war thore and in Taranaki. After receiving his discharge ho went to Napier, where he resided for about 30 years, being, with one exception, tho ttrst enrter in. that town. Mr. Flanagan came to Wellington about seven veurs ago. nnd lived with his non, Mr. R. It. Flanagan, till his death. Mr*. Janet JJrown, of 'fawn Flat, whoso den ili in announced to-day, was the relict of 11 1 'Me Mr. Jafues Brown, and arrived in the colony 44 yenrs ago. .
