THE GUARDS' BALL.
♦ The annual ball of the Wellington Guards held last night at Thomas's Hall was quite up to the high standard of the company's former gatherings. The Governor and the Countess of Ranfurly and suite were present, accompanied by Captain Browne, of H.M.S. Tauranga. The Viceregal party was received on arrival by Captain J. Duthie and the officers of the garrison. Colonel Peuton, Major Madocks, Lieutenant-Colonel Newall, and Master-Gunner Richardson were also among the guests. The shooting prizes of last reason were handed over to the winners by Lady Ranfurly, as follows: — Class Trophies: First Series.— Polhill Gully Range — A Class — Pvt. Raven, 1; Pvt. A. Ballinger, 2 ; Pvt. B. Love, 3. B Class— Corpl. C. Bould, 1. C Class— Pvt. Nash, 1. Evans Bay Range — A Class — Pvt. B. Love, 1 ; Lance-Corpl. Leslie, 2 ; Pvt. Hale, 3. B Class— Pvt. Kitchen, 1 ; Sergt. D. Love, 2. Second Series. — Evans Bay Range — A Class— Pvt. A. Ballinger, 1 ; Pvt. Hale, 2 ; Lance-Corpl. Leslie, 3. B Class — Corpl. C. Bould, 1. Polhill Gully Range— Pvt. M'Kenzip, Captain Ward and Miss Arkwright, Sir Arthur Douglas and Mrs. Hiss. Minilio's String Band provided excellent music-, and the catering was carried out by Mr. J. Godber. Capt. J. Duthie, Lieut. S. Ilareourt, Sergt. Love, and Corpl. Edinger acted as the M.C.'s. To Private C. 1-1. Aamodt, who acted as Secretary, a special share of the credit for last evening's successful results is due. The company desires to tender its thanks to the following donors of prizes :— Sir R.
