« [by telegrapii — press association.! Auckland, This Day. i This morning Castnshore was backed for the North New Zealand Grand National Hurdle liace for all the available money down to sto 1. He is now almost as good a favourite as Opai. Interesting work was got through at Ellerslie. The outside of the course was thrown open. Castashore jumped four hurdles in perfect style. Nor'-west had the best of Charcoal over two rounds. Opai was too good for Dummy over two miles. Toriki and The Priar compassed three steady rounds, both going well. - Toriki was fighting for his' head all the way. Indian Shot and Manaderva covered two rounds at a strong pace* St. Kilda and Miss Nelson eot through strong work, aud Merry Maid and Rucord Iteign put in a strong; mile. St. Hiko and Lady Helena galloped two rounds. Eeindeer was schooled over the steeplechase course, aud jumped well. Yattenfeldfc was tried over the hunlles, but baulked repeatedly. Muscatel, Levanter, and Voltigeur did work later in tbe day.
