IMPORTANT TO TRADE UNIONS. [BY TELEGBAPH— PBESS ASSOCIATION.]
Invehcahgill, This Day. Last month the Invercargill Bootmakers' Industrial Union, a registered body, sued Cosgrove, one of its members, for arrears of subscriptions. The defence was that Cosgrove's bankruptcy was a bar to the claim in part, and that the Union's rules did not empower the Secretary or anyone else to take legal proceedings. Mr. Poynton, S.M., deeming the points important, reserved his judgment, which he delivered yesterday, upholding the defence on both points. It is supposed that other unions throughout the colony' have neglected to provide a person to sue for them.
