CHAEGE AGAINST A POSTMASTER. THE QUEENSLAND BANK SCANDAL. (Received December 17, 11 a.m.) Sydney, This Day. John Hugh Carter, relieving postmaster at Wickham, has been arrested on a charge of stealing £162 of Government moneys. Yesterday morning Carter was found lying in a dazed condition. His safe, containing over £200, had been ransacked, and Carter told the police that he had been aroused early in the morning by a man entering the room, who struck him a heavy blow on the head and rendered him insensible. A subsequent investigation led to his arrest, and £160 was afterwards found hidden under a heap near the office. Brisbane, This Day. The Government has obtained counsel's opinion to the effect that there is no ground for laying a criminal charge against the directors in connection with the Queensland National Bank revelations.
